Wilma’s calibration trip to Canna and Inverewe – September 2026
Wilma took her campervan up north for the calibration of Hanwell systems at two NTS properties. She camped for the night at Arisaig, then left the van in Mallaig to spend a few days on the Isle of Canna for the calibration at Canna House. As the ferry only sails three times a week, she used her spare time to snap some views as inspiration for her art.

Next was the calibration at Inverewe House - the gardens and mountains provide an excellent backdrop for this 20th century property right at the edge of the sea near Poolewe. Wilma’s journey home took a detour via Gruinard Bay (with its infamous WWII anthrax experiment island), Little Loch Broom, and the Black Isle for a visit to ex-NTS colleague and friend Frieda Gostwick in Cromarty.
This is the best bit of our work - where we can combine the two pieces of work and a visit to a friend in a single trip - this made the best use of the time away and miles travelled, and fed the soul in the process as well!
This month will see a similar arrangement to Orkney - we are looking forward to meeting the staff at Orkney Museums again and taking time to see a little of the islands.
It’s a hard life having to being away for work … especially when the weather has been so good and the views so stunning!

Meanwhile the calibration for NTS properties continues throughout the Autumn and Winter periods for all three of us…..
